The Lindsay Clan

Jessie prompted me to do a little research today on the Lindsay Clan. I know what the Lindsay plaid looks like and I know that the crest has a swan on it. But I didn't know that the clan motto is "Endure Fort" or "Suffer Bravely." That's a new little nugget of information. Why does it have to have the word "suffer" in it? I think I prefer the word "endure."

It's actually Enduro Infortes or Endure In Strength, they are the names of the two columns holding up the entrance to the Temple of Solomon (also Boaz and Joachin). The Lindsay clan, from the Latin word "Linesi" meaning "the line", descend from the line of Levite priests of the second Temple of Jerusalem. They were the money changers that Jesus tried to drive out of the Temple. The Fesse Cheque on the coat of arms signifies the clans role down through history from the time of the first Temple as bankers. The checks are colored the holy blue and white like the flag of Israel. The shield is red signifying the holy bloodline of the priesthood and the swan represents spiritual illumination. This line was mythologized in the story of the Perceval, the Swan Knight and the Holy Grail.
